Ronald 'Ronaldo' Smoyer, 71
Ronald "Ronaldo" Smoyer passed away on January 11, 2026. No services will be held at this time.
Ron was born on December 9, 1954, in Ruislip, England, and spent his early years traveling with his military family, which provided him with incredible experiences, including living in Hawaii, where he became an avid surfer.
Ron was the beloved husband of his beautiful wife, Joan, and a proud father of his children, Blair, Joe, and Macy. He was also the grandfather of Addison, Mckenna, Khloe, Lainey, Max, Cruz and Haven.
Above all else, Ron's greatest love was his wife, Joan. He believed deeply in love at first sight and always said he knew the moment he met her that she was the one. Their love story was his favorite to tell, and he told it hundreds of times to friends and family and anyone willing to listen. He especially loved recounting how they met at Dick's on the Beach, always with pride, affection and certainty. Joan was his anchor, his partner, and the love of his life.
Known as the life of the party, Ron was a gifted storyteller with impeccable timing, legendary jokes and a true talent for making people laugh. His humor created lasting memories for family, friends and colleagues alike.
Ron had a lifelong love of football and was, without question, a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Chargers. He cheered them on with unwavering loyalty through every heartbreak and comeback, firmly believing that this would finally be their year, an optimism that never wavered no matter how many seasons tested it.
Ron worked tirelessly to achieve his dream of serving with the Omaha Fire Department. Through determination, grit and pride in his work, he rose to the rank of Captain, a position he held with honor until his retirement.
A self-taught drummer, Ron found joy in music, playing in a band and hosting weekly jam sessions in his basement. He will be remembered for his work ethic, his laughter, his music and the stories that will live on through all who knew him.
