Tammie Jo Anderson Curtis

Birth 23 Jun 1959 Blair, Washington County, Nebraska, USA Death 6 Jan 2026 (aged 66) South Wayne, Lafayette County, Wisconsin

Mark L. Curtis, age 66, and Tammie Jo Curtis, age 66, both of South Wayne, WI, passed away tragically together on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, as the result of a house fire. They died as they lived—side by side—leaving behind a family who loved them deeply and a community that will miss them greatly.

Mark was born June 29, 1959, in Boscobel, WI, the son of Theodore and Daisy (Anderson) Curtis. He grew up in the Boscobel area and graduated from Boscobel High School. Following high school, Mark proudly served in the Wisconsin National Guard. A hardworking man who never liked to sit still, Mark was always busy and nearly always working on a project in the garage. He loved working with his hands, enjoyed hunting, and treasured the simple joy of friends or neighbors stopping by just to visit.

Tammie was born July 23, 1959, in Blair, Nebraska, the daughter of Jerome and Joan (Barren) Anderson. Though born in Wyoming, her life took her to Montana—where she graduated from Arlee High School—as well as Nebraska, before eventually settling in Wisconsin. Tammie loved to read, enjoyed making crafts, and found great joy in meeting new people. A gentle and simple soul, she was content with what she had and grateful for the life she shared with Mark.

Together, Mark and Tammie were known affectionately for driving members of the Amish community, often jokingly referring to themselves as the "Amish Uber." They enjoyed the friendships they formed through those rides and valued the connections they made along the way. In retirement, they embraced the freedom to travel, often taking off to spend time with their children and grandchildren, which brought them their greatest happiness.

Mark and Tammie were united in marriage on November 14, 1997, at the Lafayette County Courthouse in Darlington, WI, and shared many years of love, partnership, and quiet devotion.

They leave their children: Bridgett (Kenny) Schafersman of Blair, NE, Thomas (Alicia) Curtis of Appleton, WI, Cassie Curtis of Calamine, WI, and Morgan (Jacob) Heim of Gratiot, WI; grandchildren: Kiezer Curtis, Zachary Schafersman, Amelia Curtis, Annastasia Heim, Wylie Richardson, and Klara Richardson; and great-grandson, Soren Richardson.

Mark also leaves his siblings: Nathan (Hailey) Curtis of Boscobel and Crystal (Sam) Desnica of Milwaukee, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Callie.

Tammie also leaves her mother, Joan Anderson; and her siblings: Willie (Sherri) Anderson of Riverton, WY, Vickie Kern of Blair, NE, Angie (Larry) Anderson of Hoskins, NE, Dixie (Tom) Liggett of Roundup, MT, Martie Anderson of Blair, NE, Kristie (Larry) Leathermon of Scottsbluff, NE, and Sandie Anderson of Blair, NE.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Though their passing was sudden and heartbreaking, Mark and Tammie leave behind a legacy of love, kindness, hard work, and devotion to family. They will be remembered together, always.

Per their wishes, no services will be held at this time but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date this summer. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington, WI, is serving the family.
