Russell Detjens, age 86 of Blair, passed away February 4, 2026. A celebration of life will be held by his family at a later date.
Russell was born May 12, 1939, in Elkhorn, Nebraska, to Claus and Enid (Peterson) Detjens.
He attended country school and then attended Blair High School, graduating in 1956. Russ worked alongside his father farming and raising cattle, west of Blair, for his entire life. He continued to farm until December 2025.
Throughout his life, his greatest passion was cars. Working on them, drag racing at Flightland in his younger years, and spending his weekends at dirt tracks watching and wrenching. In his later years he enjoyed going to car shows. Russ will always be remembered for all his farming adventures and his gift of gab.
He is survived by his children; son Rick Detjens and daughter Kim (Joel) Swanson; grandchildren Nicole (Ben) Riecken and Aaron Swanson, sister Shirley (Robert) Greene, nephew Mike Greene and cousin Donna Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sandra, wife Deb and the mother of his children Doris.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association Nebraska Chapter or Rose Hill Cemetery.
