Charles Joseph Samland
Weeping Water (Special) --Charles Joseph Samland was born August 29, 1891 in Florence, Nebraska, and died November 24, 1971 at Immanuel Medical Center, in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 80.
He was the son of Joseph and Martha Samland.
He was united in marriage to Edith Jorgensen April 4, 1941, at Omaha. He lived most of his life in Omaha, and moved to Weeping Water, Nebraska in the early 1950’s and worked in the quarries here.
He was a member of American Legion Post 237 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9099 in Weeping Water, having served in the Navy during World War One.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters.
He leaves his wife, Edith; sons, Joe and Ronald, both of Omaha, Richard of Jansen, Nebraska; daughters, Mrs. Walter Kimberling of Gilliam, Missouri, Mrs. Earl VanDorien of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Carmen Green of Dallas, Texas; brothers Frank, Fred and Ralph, all of Omaha; sisters, Mrs. Chris Skow of Omaha, Mrs. Carrie Vogel of Ralston, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Hobson-Dora Funeral Home of Weeping Water was in charge of arrangements.
Services were Saturday, November 27, at Weeping Water United Methodist Church, the Rev. Donald Yost officiating. Mrs. John Groesser was organist; C.V. Wallick, soloist.
Pallbearers were Frank Samland Jr., Gary Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Michael Phillips, Larry Vlcek and Glen Vlcek.
Burial with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 237 and VFW Post 9099 was in Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
