David Milton Melotz, 87, passed away March 2, 2026. Visitation will be held Saturday March 7, 2026, from noon to 2:00 P.M. at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Private graveside services will be held in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

David was born on August 6, 1938, in rural Douglas County to Paul and Julia Melotz, where he grew up helping at the family gas station and supply store. This is where he learned the value of hard work at an early age.

David graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1957. He married Margaret on August 9, 1958, and together they shared 67 years of marriage. In 1966, they moved from Douglas County to an acreage in Washington County, where they raised their family and created a lifetime of memories.

David worked as a millwright at Continental Can for 40 years, taking pride in his work and the friendships he maintained, including weekly coffee with fellow retirees. At home, he raised hogs, sheep and horses on their farm, keeping busy and giving his children the opportunity to grow up with chores and responsibilities. He enjoyed tending to his flower gardens, caring for his plants, and working on woodworking projects with his grandchildren.

He was active in Foresters Financial, the Grange, and 4-H, supporting youth and his local community.

David is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; children Pam Davis, Bill, and Sondra Little (Rob); sister Madeline; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother John Paul; and sons Mark and David.
