Joan Jeanette Clements
Joan Jeanette Clements, age 91 of Blair, passed away February 22, 2026, at Carter Place in Blair, Nebraska. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. Visitation will be held prior to services, at the church, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Private graveside services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Arlington.
Joan J. Clements was born September 26, 1934, in Orum, NE, to Edward and Emma (Franke) Gieselmann. Joan lived her entire life in the Arlington and Blair area.
She grew up on the family farm near Orum and attended Bisbee school. On May 18, 1963, she married Eugene (Gene) Clements at St Paul's church near Arlington. She embraced an instant family of six as Gene brought boys Milo, Roger, Saylor and a daughter Patricia to the marriage. Together, they added three more children: Merri, Mark and Karen.
Joan was a stay-at-home mom for many years until 1978 when she started working part time for the Blair Schools helping with food service. A few years later it became full time and she continued working there until her retirement in 1999.
Besides her cooking prowess Joan would also pick up side jobs sewing, painting and wallpapering for friends and family around the area. She had a tireless work ethic. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, watching sports, volunteering, time spent with family and was an outstanding bowler.
In 1958, she was an original member of the Fair Acres League at the 30 Bowl in Fremont until 2020. She participated in the NE state tournament 57 years and traveled to 44 national tournaments over her 60+ years. Twice in the 1960s she appeared on TV bowling at Leisure Lanes on Omaha's KETV.
In 1980, she was inducted into the Fremont Bowling Hall of Fame.
She also had a passion for volunteering at church, Blair Legion Auxiliary and local blood mobiles. She joined the legion auxiliary in 1972 and later served as president for over 20 years.
She was extremely patriotic and looked forward to her visits at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home.
Joan loved watching sports — the Olympics and Husker volleyball may have been her biggest passions. She loved her family and always looked forward to the holidays, birthday parties for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and game nights.
Joan is survived by her stepson Saylor Clements, Merri (Dan) Dibben, Mark (Angel) Clements and Karen Clements, all of Blair; sister-in-law Imogene Clements of Blair, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Emma, sister Dorothy and sister/brother-in-law Lorraine and Roy Peterson, husband Eugene, brother-in-law Wilbur Clements, brother-in-law and sister in-law Vernon and Geraldine Clements, stepsons Milo and Roger, stepdaughter Patricia, daughter-in-law Cheryl Clements and grandson Nathan Clements.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials go to the Blair Volunteer Fire Department, Blair American Legion building fund, Joseph's Coat in Blair or Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.
