Fredrick J. "Fred" Blom

Fredrick Junior Blom, age 75 of Missouri Valley, lowa, passed away March 11, 2026 at his home in rural Missouri Valley after a short battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 2-4 PM with services beginning at 4:00 PM at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home Blair, NE.

'Fast Fred' was born October 28, 1950 in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Winifred (Bosma) Blom. He was raised in Sutherland, lowa and later moved to Alton, Iowa where he graduated from Floyd Valley High School in 1968.

On August 1, 1969, he was united in marriage to Brenda Bruyn at the Presbyterian Church in Hospers, Iowa. The couple made their home in Alton, Iowa where their two daughters and son were born. Fred began his career at Case Power and Equipment in Alton, beginning first as a mechanic and later as an agricultural salesman.

In 1985 the family moved to Missouri Valley where he helped start Missouri Valley Implement, Inc. earning the 'Top Twenty Club' sales award in 1986 for North America. Fred also worked for Pederson-Sells and John Deere in Woodbine, Iowa. Later he became the owner operator of Fast Fred's Trucking, hauling grain for local farmers and elevators.

Over the years Fred took an active role in his community serving with the Alton Jaycees and the Alton volunteer fire department. He also served as president of the Logan/Missouri Valley Country Club and was a member of the Drifters Car Club. He especially loved anniversary cruises with the entire family, spending summers at the cabin along the Missouri River with family and friends, camping, playing golf, and serving as a support driver for RAGBRAI. He loved working on old cars, and could often be found tinkering in 'The Shed' repairing and restoring projects big and small. He also enjoyed classic car trips with friends, navigating the Lincoln Highway and Route 66.

Fred leaves his wife of 56 years, Brenda; daughters: Amy Bak of Hinton, IA and Wendy (Bobby) Rand of Blair, NE; grandchildren: Kinsey (Matt) Schiebout, Keegan (Trista) Bak, Kade (Corinnia "Sally") Bak, Alexandra (Quin) Sexton, and Gabe Rand; great-grandchildren: Gentry, Colter, Tyson, Kase, Nora, Chloe, Theo, Elsie and Elciana; sister Carol (Bill) Frerk of Primghar, IA; foster daughter Jeni (Chuck) Lofgren-Bauler, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Frederick Steven "Stevie", sister Eleanor Behrens, and son-in-law Dirk Bak.
