Steven Kent Sorensen, age 79 of Blair, passed away May 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Steve was born on July 15, 1946, in Blair, Nebraska, the son of Carl Christian and Viva Mae (Christiansen) Sorensen. He was raised in Blair, attending and graduating from Blair High School. During his school years he was involved in football, basketball, baseball and ran track. Steve also played town team softball in his young adult years. His love of sports continued throughout his lifetime as he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren involved in the activities. Steve spent countless hours volunteering at the Blair Little League, improving the complex and coaching. He was honored by the Nebraska State Little League as their volunteer of the year. Steve attended Wayne State College and then transferred to Dana College, before beginning a career as a union carpenter with ShorCo. His creativity and talents for woodworking were evident at a young age building clogs for the neighborhood kids. Steve continued to work for ShorCo, moving his way up the ladder through his hard work and dedication. He eventually became a co-owner in 1996, and president of the company until his retirement in 2011.
On September 29, 1973, he was united in marriage to Bruce Ann McKamy in O'Neill, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Blair because it was the only place Steve ever wanted to live, and although Steve traveled for his work, he always came home to Blair because it was "God's Country". In 1975, Steve and a good friend obtained land on the Missouri River at Tyson Bend and built a cabin, without the use of power tools. Over the years Steve worked tirelessly to upgrade the cabin to make it a family retreat. In 2001, Steve and Bruce Ann purchased the campground. Mowing and caring for the property was his favorite pastime.
Steve is survived by his wife Bruce Ann Sorensen; children: Amy (Justin) Haberman, Lance Sorensen; his beloved grandchildren: Zach Sorensen, Jaxon Sorensen, Cade Haberman, Olivia (Caleb) Logemann, Cole Haberman, Chloe Haberman and Cooper Sorensen; great-grandchildren: Asher and Baylor Logemann; sisters: Kristi (Ron) Schneider, Joi Sorensen (Earney); niece Mindi Schneider and nephew Blake (Lara) Schneider; brother-in-law Jerome McKamy; along with extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Blair Bear Gridiron Club or the Blair Youth Football Association.
