Graveside services will follow in the Herman Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday June 21, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00PM at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

John was born on June 13, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Kenneth and Darlene (Meeker) Forsen. He was raised in California Junction, Iowa until the family moved to Herman in 1960. He attended Herman School. After his schooling he began working for Union Pacific Railroad until he began working for several local companies and farmers. He began farming on his own in the mid 1970s.

On October 17, 1968, he was united in marriage to Judy Leonard in Logan, Iowa. The couple made their home and raised their family in the Herman area. John started the kids wrestling club in Herman and later combined the club with Tekamah and enjoyed coaching softball and baseball when his children were playing. John had a passion for collecting old tractors and working on old cars, John and Judy were members of the Missouri Valley Car Club and attended countless shows over the years. He loved following his grandchildren's sports and activities, he cherished the family camping trips with the grandchildren. Over the years John and Judy traveled the southern and western United States extensively with their RV.

John leaves his wife Judy, children, Shawn (Stephanie) Forsen and Sharon (Randy) Thompson, grandchildren; Sasha Forsen, Jordan Holst, Johnathan (Kendra) Forsen, Jack (MaKinzie) Forsen, Kendall (Connor) Witt, Tommy (Madelyn) Thompson and Tyler Thompson (Haylee), great-grandchildren; Hadley, Khysen, Margot, Elias, Oakley, Dutton, Saddler, Wylie and Bentley, sisters; Tammy (Joe) Peterson, Terri (David) Vopnford, sister-in-law Leann Forsen, brother-in-law Steve (Sharon) Leonard, sister-in-law Vicki (Randy) Koenig, sister-in-law Anne (Tom) Stoner, brother-in-law Mike (Rhonda) Leonard, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Heidi Forsen, brother Jeff Forsen, nephew Colton Peterson, his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth and Bette Leonard.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation to local nonprofits and charities.
