Funeral Services are Conducted for Mrs. Mary Swanson
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, February 11, for Mrs. Mary Swanson of Fremont, Nebraska, who died early Saturday at the Fremont hospital after undergoing major surgery, from which she never recovered. Burial was in the Blair cemetery.
Mrs. Swanson was born at Battle Creek, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Balser Werner on February 4, 1899. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Jacob Hoffman. She attended St. John’s Lutheran school and graduated from the Battle Creek High School. Following her graduation she was employed by the Battle Creek Valley Bank, later going to Norfolk, Nebraska, where she was employed.
She married L.L. Swanson, moving to Hooper, where Mr. Swanson was mail carrier. After he retired, they moved to Fremont, where they purchased the Fremont Printing Company. After the death of her husband, she continued in the business as an owner and manager associated with her son.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Altrusa Club.
She leaves a son, Douglas, of Fremont, three sisters, Mrs. Joe (Minnie) Willey of Norfolk; Mrs. Joe (Minnie) Willey of Norfolk; Mrs. Martha Doering and Mrs. A.C. (Nelda) King of Los Angeles, and a brother, George Werner of Van Nuys, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1957 and a daughter.
Relatives Attend Funeral at Fremont.
Relatives from Battle Creek attending the funeral of Mrs. Mary Swanson at Fremont last Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bierman, Mrs. Minnie Prauner, Leo Bierman, Vic Klein, Martin, Ruben and Phil Werner and Mrs. Arden Haight of Norfolk.
