Harold was born on October 25th, 1938 and passed away on July 3rd, 2026 at the age of 87

We want to extend our sympathies to the family of former Blair High School teacher Harold Ortmeier on his passing. Harold taught a variety of classes at one time or another which included shop, general math, cement masonry, woods, carpentry, electricity, industrial arts, vocational education, Co-op, and occupational relations from 1963-1999.

If you didn't have Harold in the classroom, you may have encountered him as he was supervising "8th Periods" or detentions. Rest in peace Mr. Ortmeier! Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. A rosary will be held Wednesday evening at St. Francis.--Blair Alumni Association

Harold Ortmeier, 87, of Blair, passed away July 3, 2026, at The Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 8 at St. Francis Borgia with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Harold Anton Ortmeier was born October 25 1938, on his family farm in rural Cuming County, Nebraska to Fred and Catherine Ortmeier. He graduated high school from Dodge High School in Dodge, Nebraska and college from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education.

Harold and Betty built a long and great life, involving themselves at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, and being active in the school and community. He taught Hunters Safety for many years extending his love of the outdoors to many generations. Harold was proud of his work with the ABE/GED program on a local, state and national level. He spent the later part of his life volunteering his time and skills to Desoto Bend Wildlife Rescue.

Harold was an amazing man with a long life filled with love and memories. He will be greatly missed.

Harold is survived by his daughters, Kelli (Ortmeier) Sonderup of Blair, NE, Kris Ortmeier of Bozeman, MT, and Kathi Ortmeier of Elkhorn, NE; sister Deana Mark of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Mary Svitak of Howells, NE, grandchildren, Jena (Wenz) and Bryan Vong of Albuquerque, NM, Megan (Wenz) Herron of Omaha, NE, Brad Wenz and Angela Bub of Appleton, WI, Jessica (Carson) Goldfish of Blair, NE, Kat Carson of Modale, IA, and William and Ariel Carson of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Betty Ortmeier; his children, Kent Ortmeier and Karol (Ortmeier) Henricksen; parents, Fred and Catherine Ortmeier; siblings Cletus Ortmeier, Henrietta Tomka, Elizabeth Throener, and Ric Ortmeier; sister-in-law Mary Eifert; and son-in-law, Wayne Sonderup.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for later designation or your favorite charity.
