Rita was born on November 12th, 1950 and passed away on July 7th, 2026 at the age of 75
Rita Ann Smock entered Eternal Rest with the Father on July 7th, 2026, at the age of 75 years old. Memorial services will be held July 18, 2026 at 10:30AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair, Nebraska.
Rita was born on November 12th, 1950, in Omaha, NE to Max and Betty Block. She grew up on the family farm in Mondamin, IA with her brother Doug. The family moved to Omaha and Rita attended St. Paul's Lutheran School where she also attended church and confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ.
Rita was diagnosed with Polio at a very young age, which only made her more determined. Rita was a tireless, hard worker from a young age. Rita graduated from Omaha North High School in 1969. She was married for the first time to the late John Long in 1974. Rita had 2 children, Lisa and Brad, before divorcing in 1977.
Rita went to work for Mutual of Omaha while attending classes at Metropolitan Community College, where she graduated with a degree in computer science. After graduation, she worked for Metro as a Computer Services Manager, a position she stayed in until 1993.
In 1988, Rita met the love of her life, Kenneth Smock. They were married on November 3rd, 1990, and had 2 more children, Stephanie and Joe. After she retired from Metro, Rita took over the business side of Kenneth's construction business. Rita loved her family so much. She loved having the holidays, opening her home to family and friends. Rita also enjoyed golfing, playing games, Husker football, and just spending time with her beloved husband Fred. Rita also had many cousins that she loved to laugh and reminisce with. Rita loved so many people and was loved by so many others.
Rita leaves her daughter Lisa and Kevin Horak, son Brad and Joanna Long, daughter Stephanie and Damon Peters, son Joseph Smock, grandchildren Max and Samantha Horak, Carter Ross, Magnolia Peters, Anthony, Ivan, Logan, and Jasmine Long, stepmother Rosemary Block, brother Doug and Bonnie Block, stepbrother Ron and Evgeniya Chaffin, stepsister Debra and Werner Pletscher, nieces, nephews, and many beloved cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her father Max, her mother Betty, and her grandmother Hattie Stulgies. Campbell Aman Funeral Home, Blair, NE.
