STRICKLETT DIES, AGE 64

Blair Grocer Died Suddenly At His Home; Rites Will Be Friday.

In failing health since last year, Walter Stricklett, 64, Blair grocer and long-time Blair resident, died late Sunday night at his home. Death was attributed to coronary heart trouble.

The body was taken to the Campbell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist Church, the Rev. Homer L. Dickerson officiating, and burial will be in Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers will be A. T. Van De Venter, Harry L. Morris, Roy Dolan, Don Jones, Dee Spickler, Ralph Pearce and Menno Good.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stricklett, Walter Stricklett was born in Blair Apr. 30, 1887, and had lived here practically all his life. He and Jessie Bouvier of DeSoto were married May 5, 1908.

For many years Mr. Stricklett was with the old Blair Canning Factory. Later he was at Linent of the penitentiary canning factory. During World War II, he spent five years in Oregon working in the shipyards. He was with the Port of Entry staff in Blair part of 1951.

Mr. and Mrs. Stricklett opened the Knotty Pine Grocery at Eighth and Colfax Sts. about three and a half years ago, with their home in the rear of the building.

Surviving Mr. Stricklett are his wife, Jessie; two sons, Melbourne Stricklett of Bend, Ore., and Ernie Stricklett, at home; and two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Halstead (Bernice) of Redmond, (Blendenna) of Stockton, Calif.

Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Elsie Stricklett of Blair; 5 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Bellows (Bess) of Fremont, Mrs. Herman Ladwig (Kate) and Mrs. Pete Gilliam (Cora), both of Blair. A brother, the Rev. Frank Stricklett, died several weeks ago.
