Mrs. Newton Sutherland, 61, native and former resident of Blair, died Saturday at Fort Collins, Colorado, following an illness of a year’s duration. She was critical ten days. The body was returned to Blair and services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. yesterday at the Bendorf Funeral Home by Rev. D. D. Kenney of First Baptist Church, interment followed in Blair Cemetery.

Mrs. Sutherland was born here August 16, 1884, as Edyth Marvel Gearhart**, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Gearhart**, county pioneers. She grew to womanhood here, and on October 26, 1904, she married to Mr. Sutherland and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 1908, remaining there until March 1943, when they moved to Fort Collins.

Surviving her are her husband, Newton, a sister, Mrs. Arminta Sappenfield of Blair, five nieces and three nephews.
