Another Old Resident Is Called By Death

Mrs. John Sutherland died at the family home in this city early last Sunday morning, following a spell of sickness that had covered a period of three years duration, the last few days being in a state of unconsciousness.

The funeral was held yesterday from the Baptist Church, with Rev. Foreman officiating, and the six sons of the deceased acted as pallbearers. The floral tributes were both beautiful and profuse and a large cortege of sorrowing relatives and friends followed the remains to their last resting place in the cemetery east of town.

Eliza A. Cordill was born near Cumberland, Ind., December 19, 1846, and was married to John Sutherland on September 12, 1867. They settled near Waymansville, Ind., where they lived until September, 1882, when they moved to this county, settling on a farm northwest of Blair where they resided until about twelve years ago when they came to town to spend their declining years in rest.

Mrs. Sutherland was the mother of nine children, seven boys and two girls, all of whom are living and were in attendance at the funeral, with the exception of Mead, who died eighteen years ago at the age of 25 years. The surviving children are Mrs. R. A. Hooks and Mrs. Chas. Lamb of Blair, W. H. of Enid, Okla., Wes, of Craig, Nebr., Newt of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Abe, Marion and Howard of Blair.

Her life was a path marked with deeds of kindness and cheer. Flowers, not thorns, sunshine, not shadow, did she scatter everywhere. With these she was lavish. Truth was the inspiration of her life and by kindness she exemplified its great worth. To her the struggle and burden bearing of earth are ended, and we confidently trust that like one who awakes from a troubled dream she may be awakened to see life’s endless morning break and knows herself at home with all the vast throng of loved ones, missed from earth, safe about her.
