John Sutherland Jr., 78

John "Burly" Sutherland, 78, of Max, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in Omaha. Funeral services will be held at a later date in Grant.

John Sutherland Jr. was born March 7, 1929, in Blue Springs to John Sr. and Thelma Sutherland.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and had served as the Washington County Sheriff.

He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed both hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Lylia; daughters and sons-in-law, Roxann and Pat Edwards of Blair, Robin and Wayne Larsen of Cozad; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Gretchen Sutherland of Seward, Bill Sutherland of Blair, Mark and Kim Sutherland of Bertrand; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cliff Sutherland of Omaha, Dar Sutherland of Blair, and Dick Sutherland of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen, and a son, Joseph.
