Thelma Sutherland Died Sunday at Omaha Hospital

Mrs. John Sutherland, long-time resident, died Sunday at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha. She had been in failing health for a numbers of months.

Mrs. Sutherland was born at Lewiston, Nebraska, June 24, 1909. She was 65 years of age at her death. She came to Blair about fifty years ago and has made this her home continuously since that time.

She was the wife of John Sutherland and the couple lived at 1231 Colfax Street. Her husband survives her.

In addition to being a housewife, Mrs. Sutherland has been active in a number of civic affairs. She has the distinction of having been Blair's first policewoman, having served the Blair department for several years.

Besides her husband, she is survived by 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

The four sons: John Sutherland, Jr. of Grant, Nebraska; Darwin Sutherland of Blair, Clifton Sutherland of Omaha, and Richard Sutherland of Grand Island, Nebraska. A daughter, Mrs. Roxanne Edwards lives in Blair.

A sister, Mrs. Ethel Lewis, lives at Costa Mesa, California.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Tuesday afternoon, April 1st. The Rev. Robert Bee conducted the service and burial was made at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary.
