Devoted father, grandfather & great-grandfather

Donald E. Schutt, 85, died Nov. 5, 2011, at Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.

A memorial service will be held beginning at 2 p.m. Nov. 26, at the Herman Legion Hall in Herman.

Donald Eugene Schutt was born June 8, 1926, to Mildred and Walter Schutt of David City. They moved to Rising City, where he attended 10 years of school before moving to Osceola, where he graduated from high school.

He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served until 1946.

On June 7, 1948, he married Lucille A. Need.

Mr. Schutt lived most of his life in the Burt and Washington County areas, spending many years working for area farmers. His career also included maintenance for the Tekamah nursing home and caretaker for the Herman area cemeteries.

He was a member of the Herman American Legion and served many years on the Herman Village Board.

As a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he always enjoyed the company of his family. When time allowed, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of Fremont; five children and their spouses, Raymond and Nancy Schutt of Fremont, Patricia and Vernon Lewis of Dover, Okla., Michael and Donna Schutt of Tekamah, Robert and Stacey Schutt of Gretna, and Timothy and Jeannene Schutt of Cedar Bluffs; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Shirley Schutt of Kansas and Dale and Shirley Schutt of Herman, and Richard Schutt of Omaha; sister-in-law, Grace Schutt of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister; brother, Kenneth Schutt; and sister, Edith Mogenson.
