#1 Don Earwood, 64

Don A. Earwood, 64 of Logan, Iowa, died Friday, July 31, 1987, at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley.

Services were held Tuesday morning August 4 at 10 a.m. at Schumacher Funeral Home in Logan.

Officiating at the service and providing music was clergyman Ron Bass, accompanied by Kris Gash. Pall bearers were Curtis Owens, Dewey Brockman, Kenneth Collins, Vernon Foje, Max Field, and Frank Palmer.

Military services were conducted by Logan's V.F.W. Post 6256. Interment was at Harris Grove Cemetery, Logan.

He was born September 21, 1922, in Whiting, Iowa, to Dora and Bert Earwood and lived his childhood at Modale, Iowa. He spent several years at Fort Calhoun and the past three years in Logan.

Don joined the Army in 1941 and was a 4 1/2 year veteran of World War II. While serving overseas, he joined the Rangers in 1942.

He was serving as President of the Iowa Chapter of the Rangers Association, a member of V.F.W. Post 6256 of Logan, American Legion Post 348 of Fort Calhoun, and the 40/8 Voiture Locale No. 1018 of Omaha.

Survivors include his wife Lorene (Grossner) of Logan, one daughter, Donaline Junkar of Phoenix, Arizona, three sons: Jeffery of Newport News, Virginia, Dennis (wife Marianne) of Newport News, and Kevin (wife Caroline) of Furth, Germany.

One sister, Doris David of Oxnard, California, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Note: Staff Sgt. Earwood was one of 50 US Army Rangers that participated with British commandos on the Dieppe raid in 1942.
