J.B. JENSEN, 53 YEARS IN HERMAN, IS DEAD

ACTIVE IN PATRIOTIC ORGANIZATIONS AND MASONIC LODGES

J.B. Jensen, long-time Herman business man, died Saturday at the Community Memorial Hospital in Blair. He was 83 years of age, having been born at Horsens, Denmark, June 3, 1890.

He came to America as a young man and settled at Herman where he engaged in the business of retail meats. For many years he operated the once familiar small town "butcher shop" shere he served the public meticulously with a quality product.

On November 21, 1921, he was married to Jessie M. Hansen at Tyler, Minnesota. Immediately following their marriage, the couple moved to Herman and made their home there for the rest of their lives.

Mr. Jensen is survived by his wife, Jessie, and by one daughter, Betty J. Balding, of Kalispell, Montana. There are two grandchildren.

Also survivving are four brothers, Jack Jensen, of Blair; Nels Jensen of Tyler, Minnesota; and Jorgen and Victor Jensen, both of Denmark. A sister, Dagmar Jorgensen, also lives in Denamrk.

Mrs. Violet Hansen Smithers, of Kalispell, Montana, who was raised by the Jensens, is a survivor. Robert Jensen, Blair contractor, is a nephew of the deceased man.

Mr. Jensen was active in many organizations. He was loyal to his adopted country and served in World War I. He was a long time member of the Jackson-Peck American Legion Post at Herman; a member of the Forty-Eight veterans organization. He was a past District Commander of the Herman Jackson-Peck Post and was also a past Washington Clounty American Legion Commander.

He was an active member of the Danish Brotherhood. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Herman and the Masonic Lodge of Tekamah.

Funeral services were held at the American Legion Hall at Herman on Wednesday afternoon, August 22nd. The Rev. Sanford Sorgen of the First Lutheran Church in Blair, conductred the service. Interment was made the following day at Danebod Lutheran Cemetery at Tyler, Minnesota.

Pallbearers were Robert Petersen, Russell Trotter, Harold Lang, Roy Hansen, Harold Hancock and Lyle Thielfoldt.
