JOHN JENSEN, 95, 4/22/1901 - 4/6/1997

John Jensen, 95 of Fremont and formerly of the Bennington-Washington-Arlington area died Sunday, April 6, 1997 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Services will bew 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. Mark Grorud and Rev. Benard Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Visitation at Ludvigsen Mortuary will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with visitation at the church one hour before the service.

Jensen was born April 22, 1901 in Denmark to Jens and Marie "Nielsen" Jensen. He left Denmark at noon on Nov. 26, 1920. He arrived in New York on the evening of Dec. 9, 1920 and got to Washington, Nebr. Dec. 12, 1920. He worked for area farmers. He attended Dana College in Blair in 1924-25. He worked for a farmer in Marquette, Nebr. in 1927 and then returned to Washington before moving to Kansas City to work for the American Eagle Aircraft Co. in late 1927.

He attended the Porterfield Flying School in Kansas City in 1928 and received his pilot's license. In late 1928, he returned to Washington and in 1929 he moved to Marquette. On Jan. 30, 1930, he married Alma Lagoni at Kronborg, Nebr. They farmed near Hampton, Nebr. the next 10 years and in 1940 they moved to a farm southeast of Arlington. In 1955, they moved to a farm near Washington. They sold that farm in the fall of 1970 and in Feb. 1971, they moved to Fremont.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont and the Farm Bureau of Washington County.

Survivors are a sister, Sena Rhea of Fremont and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma in May of 1996.

Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church.
