Wayne P. Anderson, 93

Longtime Blair pharmacist

Wayne P. Anderson, 93, of Blair, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at First United Methodist Church, 1656 Colfax Street, in Blair. Visitation will begin Tuesday, Nov 22, at 1 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Wayne P. Anderson was born in Hartington to Reuben and Gladys (Hagerdon) Anderson. At the age of 2, his family moved to Laurel. He went through the Laurel school system and graduated from Laurel High School in 1937. In high school, he was on the track team, played basketball, football and American Legion baseball. After graduation from the University of Nebraska, he went to pharmacy school in Kansas City and graduated in 1943.

On Aug. 10, 1941, he married Neva Killion of Kansas City, Mo., at his parents' home in Laurel. He volunteered for the service in 1944 and spent two years in the C.B.I. Theatre (China, Burma and India), all the time in India and Pakistan. When he returned from World War II, he worked in Sioux City for a year and then, in 1948, went to work at Stewart's Pharmacy in Blair, buying the store from Merle Stewart in 1958. He worked in the pharmacy business for 45 years.

While in the pharmacy, he belonged to the Blair Chamber of Commerce, the Blair Rotary Club, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He served on the Library Board several years, serving two years as the board president.

Mr. Anderson sold the store to Curt Barr in 1983 and worked for Barr for 10 years. In 1987, he moved to Omaha. Mr. Anderson often said, "In all of my working years I was never late for work and missed only a half-day's work from sickness."

He is survived by his children: daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Roger Howland, Judy and Joe Toman, and Julie Denson; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Judy, Greg and Pam, Brad Anderson, 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Avis Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva; sister, Norma Linster; brother, Harold Anderson; infant sister, Dorothy; and son-in-law, Sandy Denson.
