SERVICES FOR REV. JENSEN THURSDAY

Funeral services for Rev. Dr. John Martin Jensen, Lutheran minister and scholar, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Dr. C.C. Madsen will conduct the service, with hymns by organist Clare Cowing.

Another service is set for 3 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial wil be Friday at Lynnwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Jensen was instrumental in the settlement and employment of Danish immigrants to Canada and the United States, as he was appointed Knight of Dannebrog in 1945 by the King of Denmark.

Jensen was born in Toledo, Ohio, and at age two his family returned to Jyland, Denmark. At age 19, he returned to the states and settled in North Dakota.

He attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and went on to Mt. Airie Seminary in Philadelphia. He served as minister in Lutheran churches in New Denmark, New Brunswick, Canada; Spencer, Iowa; Viborg, South Dakota; Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He became editor of the Ansgar Lutheran, the official church newspaper in 1935, and took an editorial position at the Lutheran Standard in 1960. He was 91.

He is survived by his wife Martha Rasmussen of Blair. The couple moved to Blair from Hastings in February of 1983.

Other survivors include brothers Christian of Minneapolis, Erhardt of Calgary, Canada, and Alfred of Panorama City, California; sons Ronald of Villa park, Illinois and Fred of Streator, Illinois, and daughter Mrs. B.B. (Margaret) Rasmussen of Elmnhurst, Illinois; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the Blair service will be John, Carl and Ron Rasmussen, Fred Jensen, John Jacobsen and David Hudak. A prayer service was held Wednesday evening at the Campbell Funeral Home in Blair.
