Irene D. Peterson, 92, of Onawa, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Joint graveside services for Mrs. Peterson, and her husband, Elwood, who died Nov. 30, 2011, were held Monday, Dec. 5, in Little Sioux Cemetery near Little Sioux, Iowa.

A joint Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, Dec. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with memorial services at 6 p.m. at the Mondamin (Iowa) United Methodist Church.

Irene Dorothy Flint was born Sept. 4, 1919, near Moorhead, Iowa, to Louis and Anekatrine "Lizzie" (Moller) Flint. She attended school in Moorhead and then Blencoe, Iowa, where she graduated from high school.

On May 26, 1937, she married Elwood Louis Peterson in Moorhead. The family pioneered in Minnesota on Rat Lake and Mrs. Peterson helped her husband with the trapping, farming and later, in the sawmill. In 1942, the family returned to the farm near Little Sioux. Mrs. Peterson was a homemaker and helped her husband with the farming.

She was a member of Mondamin United Methodist Church and was involved in the Women's Circle. She enjoyed jewelry, seashells and her owl collections, as well as crafts, crossword puzzles, reading, sewing, bingo and shopping. In earlier years, she belonged to a bowling league, a Bunco club and helped with Kiwanis functions. Wintering in Florida and trips to Alaska and Canada were among her travels.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Adrienne and Mike Lehl and Janet and Jerry Jorgensen, all of Blair; one son, Brian Peterson, of Little Sioux; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Vail, Ralph, Glen and Floyd Flint; and one sister, Florence Peterson. Memorial donations may be made to the staff at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
