J. Michael Brooks, 64, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, in Columbia, Mo. A private memorial is planned in Columbia.

John Michael "Mike" Brooks was born May 4, 1947, in Macon, Mo., to Harold and Dorothy Brooks. The family moved to Columbia in 1957. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1965 and attended Truman State University In Kirksville, Mo.

After serving in the United States Air Force, he worked at the Columbia Daily Tribune in the classified advertising department and then spent many years in marketing, sales and customer relations in Florida and Kansas City. He returned to Columbia from Overland Park, Kan., in 1993.

He enjoyed puttering around his home and watching old movies, the Missouri Tigers and NFL football.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and David Ranum of Macon, Mo., and brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Rebecca Brooks of Columbia, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla (Gibbons) Brooks in 1993.

Heartland Cremation Services in Columbia was in charge of arrangements.
