Remembered for Helpfulness to Others

Jeffrey A. Matzen, 59, died on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at the Veterans Home in Norfolk. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Wednesday, Dec. 28, at First Christian Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Jeffrey A. Matzen was born Oct. 2, 1952, in Omaha to Marlin and Nila Matzen. He grew up in Blair and graduated from Blair High School in 1970.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman in Germany. He was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Lutheran church and belonged to the American Legion Post No. 366 of Kennard.

After serving in the military, he was employed at Valmont Industries. He was in a motorcycle accident in July 1976, and was in a coma for three months. After leaving the hospital, he was unable to return to work but was kept busy helping others. In 1999, he entered the Veterans Home in Norfolk where he made many friends.

He will be remembered for his love of cars, and his helpfulness to others.

He is survived by his mother, Nila, of Blair; one sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Larry Blaydes; brother and sister-in-law, Bradley and Angie Matzen; two nephews Kyle and Ryan Matzen; niece, Jenna Matzen, all of Fremont; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marlin Matzen, and his grandparents, Neal and Selma Thompson and August and Anna Matzen.
