George W. Bluma, 95

Longtime Principal of St. Paul's Lutheran School

George W. Bluma, 95, of Fremont, formerly of Arlington, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.4, with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Arlington.

George W. Bluma was born Feb. 18, 1916, in Louisville to Henry and Frederica (Bruhn) Bluma. He lived in Louisville, then Malcolm, and graduated from Concordia High School and Concordia College, both in Seward. After college, he lived in Wisner for two years where he taught school and then moved to Omaha for five years.

In 1942, he moved to Arlington where he taught school and was principal at the St. Paul's Lutheran School, north of Arlington, until retiring in 1981.

On August 24, 1941, he married Viola M. Culp in Lincoln.

Mr. Bluma was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was the choir director, organist, youth director and member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. He was active in the State Walther League and served for two years as state president. After retiring from St. Paul's Lutheran School, he assisted part time at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home until the age of 90.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Sondra Bluma, of Omaha and Stephen and Ruth Ann Bluma, of Basehor, Kan.; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Charles Wilsey, of Fremont, Kathleen and Roger Nettleton, of Kirksville, Mo., and Jane and Gale Breitkreutz, of Seattle, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola, on June 22, 2008; brother, Fred Bluma; sister, Marie Boldebuck; stepbrother, Ervin Lange; and stepsister, Loretta Piening.

Memorials may be directed to the George and Viola Bluma Educational Fund at St. Paul's and to the Arlington Public Library.
