SERVICES FOR REV. P.C. JENSEN WILL BE ON TUESDAY

Services for the 90-year old Rev. P.C. Jensen have been set for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20th. Rev. Jensen died on June 16th at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital. Services will be at the First Lutheran Church in Blair with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Rev. Peder Christian Jensen, who resided at the Good Shepherd Home, 2242 Wright St., Blair, Nebraska, was born on October 22, 1887 at South Stenderup, Denmark to Jens Jensen and his wife Bertha K. Beck Jensen.

He was baptized into the Christian faith as a Lutheran in his native country of Denmark and later confirmed that faith in the rite of confirmation at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.

He attended grade school and High School in Audubon, Iowa, and thereafter attended Dana College and Trinity Seminary, both in Blair, Nebraska in preparation for the ministry of the Lutheran Church.

On June 7, 1916, he was united in marriage with Kirsten Schmidt. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive him.

During his active lifetime he served faithfully as a pastor of the Lutheran Church in Pocatello, Idaho; San Francisco, California; Livermore, California; Exira and Hamlin, Iowa; Sidney, Montana; and Kennard, Nebraska. In addition to his pastoral services, he served as the historian and statistician for the United Evangelical Lutheran Church synod. He was the editor of a Danish weekly newspaper as well. He retired from the parish ministry in 1943, but continued to serve as the editor of the weekly paper until 1958. Pastor Jensen was widely known in the former UELC which is now part of the American Lutheran Church for his knowledge of the church, its pastors and the historical development of Lutheranism among immigrant Danish people in America.

His work and efforts also came to the attention of the Danish crown and he was knighted by the king of Denmark for his work in association with serving Danish people in America. Another of his interests was the growth and development of Dana College. Much of his library and valuable historical records are now a part of the Dana College Library.

Pastor Jensen died at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital on Friday, June 16th, at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 25 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and two grandchildren.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Kirsten, daughters Dania Hundtoft, Ingrid Matzen and Ellenora Plugge, all of Blair; a son, Ansgar Jensen of Laurel, Montana and a daughter Bertha Olsen of Van Nuys, California, in addition to 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Officiating at the service will be pastors Robert Albers and John Petersen with greetings from Dr. C.C. Madsen in behalf of Dana College and greetings from Pastor Henry Stolz, administrator and chaplain of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Pallbearers will be Roger Plugge, Larry Matzen, Steve Matzen, Rick Plugge, Randy Plugge and Paul Hundtoft.
