Thomas K. Eason, 83

Services for Thomas K. Eason, 83 of North Bend, who died December 12, 1994, at his home were Friday, December 16 at United Presbyterian Church in North Bend, Rev. Don Canady officiated. Graveside services were conducted by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8223 and American Legion Post No. 340.

Thomas K. Eason was born September 1, 1911, in rural North Bend. He lived his entire life on the farm where he was born. He was in the United States Army Reserves from December 1932 until being called to active duty February 1, 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, France and in Germany. He received a Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, a Bronze Star and the Croix de Duerrre as well as the Combat Infantry Badge. He was released from active duty October 3, 1945, and served in the Army Reserve until retiring with the rank of Colonel on September 1, 1971.

He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1932 and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.

He worked in the office of the Nebraska Secretary of State in the 1930s. He farmed east of North Bend where he lived.

He was president of Marshall Nurseries, a member of Nebraska Nurserymen's Association, United Presbyterian Church of North Bend, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8223 of North Bend, American Legion Post No. 340 of Morse Bluff and the 79th Infantry Division Association.

He was a past president of the Cottrell Township Dike Board, a former member of the North Bend Dike and Drainage District, had served on the District 9 School Board, the Nebraska Power Review Board and was a past president of the Nebraska Telephone Association.

He married Glendine G. Johnson June 3, 1939, at Fremont, Nebraska. She preceded him in death October 30, 1944. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bertie Acom Eason; a brother, Richard and sisters, Myrtle Rand, Alice Boyd and Edith Madura.

He is survived by sons, Thomas F. Eason of Orlando, Florida; Michael Eason of North Bend and James Eason of Plymouth, Minnesota; a daughter, Janet (Mrs. Jim) Ryan of Boston, Massachusetts and four grandchildren, Lt. Mike Eason, Marcy Eason, DiAnn Eason and David Eason.

Memorials may go to United Presbyterian Church or the North Bend Bicentennial Scholarship Fund.
