Loved to Bake

Lois P. Rurup, 86, of Blair, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in Blair.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. this Sunday, Jan. 22, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun.

Lois Pauline Knag was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Bennington to Hans and Edith Knag. She grew up in the Irvington and Fort Calhoun area, and attended Benson High School.

On April 1, 1948, she married Lester "Buster" Rurup in Omaha.

Mrs. Rurup's main vocation was a homemaker and as a grocery store clerk; she worked for 28 years at Mac's IGA and Town and Country Market. She belonged to extension clubs and 4-H clubs, and was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, where she once served on the Board of Deacons.

Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, crafts and baking. She will be most remembered for her wonderful baking and how she shared it with all her family, neighbors and friends.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Emile and Dennis Cordle of Blair and Lois Ann and Lyle Borders of Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rurup of Omaha; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; brothers, Hans and Jim Knag; sisters, Hazel Rurup and Lena Brandt.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, Blair Fire and Rescue, or the donor's choice.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
