ROY A. JENSEN, 88

Roy A. Jensen, 88, of Omaha, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.

His remains have been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Braman Mortuary, 1702 N. 72nd Street, Omaha. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Roy Albert Jensen was born June 5, 1920, in Blair, to Ole and Naomi (Curry) Jensen. After graduating from Blair High School in 1938, he moved to Omaha.

On Dec. 14, 1940, he married Gladys Hazard. The couple had three children.

Mr. Jensen served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from February 1942 until January 1946. He served stateside as an instrument repair instructor with the 18th Bombardment Squadron. He then served as part of the Japan Occupation Force, by way of Manila, Philippines, from October 1945 until January 1946.

Mr. Jensen worked in the heavy duty truck parts field most of his life.

He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving several years as Scoutmaster of Troop 21, sponsored by the Benson Presbyterian Church. His Scouting accomplishments include the Order of the Arrow, camping at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and taking several Scouts on a canoe trip to Canada.

Roy Jensen and Gladys Jensen divorced in 1986. Mr. Jensen had a special friend, Dorothy, who died in the spring of 2008.

He was an accomplished handyman. He would buy a “fixer-upper” house and then live in it while he was remodeling it. He did this twice, selling his last home in the spring of 2006 and moving to an apartment when his health made the home upkeep too great.

His health declined with leukemia, heart disease, diabetes and, finally, colon cancer. He was admitted to the hospital on Nov. 11 and died last Saturday.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Duane Moffatt of Blair; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Moreen Jensen of Bennington; three grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Lisa Moffatt, Stephanie and Lynn Robbins of Omaha, Buffi and Mike Lage of Kansas City, Kan.; four great-grandchildren, Drew Moffatt, Alex Moffatt, Zoe Jensen-Pickett and Logan Jensen-Robbins; a sister, Mary Jensen of Blair; and five nieces and nephews, including Donnie and Sara Jensen of Blair.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Gail; and a brother, Robert Jensen.

Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America.
