Walter R. Dixon, 79

Served 21 Years in the U.S. Air Force

Hastings resident, Walter "Babe" R. Dixon, 79, died Tuesday, Jan, 31, 2012, at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.

Rosary will be 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Interment with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings.

Walter R. "Babe" Dixon was born Oct. 4, 1932, in St. Paul, Minn., to John Patrick and Josephine (Domagalla) Dixon. He attended St. Mark's School in St. Paul.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1972 as a Technical Sergeant; this included a three-year tour of Viet Nam.

On Aug. 28, 1982, he married Judy Christoffersen in Hastings.

Mr. Dixon worked as a lineman for Hastings Utilities from 1973 until 1992. He was a member of the D.A.V. and St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Dixon of Hastings; daughters, Deborah Norbeck of New Baden, Ill., and Joanne Seibel of St. Libory, Ill.; sons, Michael W. Dixon and John P. Dixon, both of Hastings; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tom Dixon of Harvard.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Catholic Social Services.

Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
