Marjorie F. Pike, 92

Loved Taking Cruises Around The World

Marjorie Frances Pike, 92, of Loveland, Colo., died Jan. 31, 2012 at McKee Medical Center. Memorial services were Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Loveland.

Marjorie Frances Miller was born July 27, 1919, in Denver, Colo., to Robert and Jennie Miller. She was raised in and graduated from high school in the Denver area. She attended college in the eastern United States.

She met her future husband, Gilbert Pike, when he came to look at a room at the boarding house her mother ran in Denver. On April 16, 1941, the couple were wed in the living room of the boarding house. After they were married, her husband joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and was sent to the South Pacific. The couple was separated for two years. During this time, Mrs. Pike worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a clerk; her desk was actually out in the railroad yard.

Upon her husband's return, they were stationed in California. She then worked as a clerk for Southern Pacific Railroad. After leaving the Navy, the Pikes lived in Nebraska, Florida, and Colorado. They lived in Colorado for a long time and Mrs. Pike held a job as a private stenographer for a general at Lowry Field. They later returned to California where they lived for many years. Mrs. Pike worked for the census, going door-to-door to gather information and also took care of the books for her husband's landscaping business. They moved back to Colorado and have been residing in Loveland for the past six years.

Mrs. Pike was a skilled homemaker and became a Life Master bridge player. Traveling was a pleasure for her and she loved taking cruises around the world.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert, of Loveland; sons, Gilbert A. Pike II of San Bernardino, Calif., and Robert C. Pike of Loveland; grandchildren, Gilbert A. Pike III of Oregon, Laura Vandergriff of Paris, Calif., and Dawn M. S. Pike of Colorado; two great-grandchildren; a niece, Diane Degoey; and nephews, Mike Richards and Guy Manweiler. Her sister, Doris Richards of Denver, died the day after Mrs. Pike.

She was preceded in death by a sister Emma Manweiler, and two nephews.

Viegut Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
