MELIUS E. BOLLESON, 80

LONGTIME MILITARY AND LUTHERAN PASTOR

RETIRED NAVY CHAPLAIN, CAPTAIN

Melius E. Bolleson died of a stroke on Sept. 8, 2011. Services were held at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach, Calif. Interment was Sept. 20, in the Mir Mar National Cemetery.

Melius E. Bolleson was born Aug. 22, 1931, in Plainview to Martinus P. and Rose E. Bolleson.

He graduated from Dana College in 1952 and from Trinity Seminary in Blair in 1956. He was ordained at the National Convention of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 25, 1956, in Cedar Falls, iowa.

He served as associate pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Norwalk, Calif., and Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls prior to joining the United States Naval Reserve in 1962. He served as a chaplain and retired with the rank of Captain after 30 years of service. He then served as pastor at the Chapel of Peace Lutheran Church in Inglewood, Calif., and Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach, where he was known as “Pastor Mel.”

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia; children, Curtis, Susan and Sam Britt, Beth and Chris Deason, and Christopher; and three granddaughters.
