NYE WOMAN DIES WHEN SUV HITS TREE

A Nye woman died late Wednesday night or early Thursday after the sport utility vehicle she was driving crashed into a tree.

Stillwater County Coroner Terry Nystul identified the woman as 71-year-old Lynne Jensen. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, Jensen was driving a Jeep Cherokee southbound on Rainbow Road west of Nye sometime between 9 and 11 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, it veered off the west side of the road. The Jeep crashed through a fence and drove through a field before it crashed head-on into a tree, the highway patrol said.

The crash was not reported until about 9 a.m. Thursday, and Jensen was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency crews arrived. Excessive speed is considered a factor in the crash, and Jensen was not wearing a seat belt at the time, according to the patrol.

Jensen’s exact cause of death most likely won’t be determined until early next week, Nystul said.
