Raymond “Rick” Olson was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Washington County to Clarence and Myrtle (McDonald) Olson.

The loves of his life were his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He was married to his best friend, Judy Beaver, on April 14, 1954, also of Tekamah. They spent nearly 56 years together. They resided on the Missouri River since 1973, where countless memories were made with family and friends. The couple was blessed with four children.

His passion for hunting was also his work and he was able to spend his time with family and friends doing what he loved. He enjoyed attending Country Bible Church (when the geese weren’t flying).

His lifetime passion of hunting was the inspiration for his commercial hunting business in Julesburg, Colo., and Tekamah for the past 40 years. In 1968, he designed his first steel hunting blind, finally fabricating fiberglass blinds in 1998. Today, his fiberglass blinds are sold throughout the United States.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Tekamah; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jeff Hanawalt of Houston, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Robin, Mitch and Connie, Rob and Lynn, all of Tekamah; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers and sisters-in –law, Lloyd and Doris of Tekamah, Ron and Kathy of Valley; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Raymond Warren of Elkhorn; sister-in-law, Jaccie Olson of Dakota City; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll and June Olson; a grandchild, Benjamin Olson; a nephew, Randy “Rhubarb” Olson; and special friend, “Coondog.”

Memorials are suggested to the family, who plans to establish a vocational scholarship, or the Tekamah Rescue Squad.

Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah is in charge of arrangements.
