Angus Cattle Were His Love

Eldon C. Neujahr, 72, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at his home in Liberty.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville, Kan. A memorial graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, north of Arlington.

Eldon Charles Neujahr was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Seward to Rudolph and Hulda (Suhr) Neujahr.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Gresham. He attended St. Paul's Parochial School and graduated from Gresham High School in 1957.

He married Emily Scheer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Arlington, on June 9, 1962. He spent much of his life on the family farmstead near Surprise until 1995 when he and his family moved to Liberty.

Mr. Neujahr was presently a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Marysville, Kan. He served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force National Guards. He was a member of the American Angus Association and the Nebraska Angus Association. He was an independent livestock order buyer, traveling to many states and making many lifelong friends. He was also a hog buyer for Armour and Co. at Madison and a cattle buyer for Producers at Darr.

He enjoyed his children's sporting events and activities as well as his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a fan and supporter of Kansas State football. Angus cattle were his love, and he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren, especially fishing at the pond located near their home property. He was a 4-H member and leader, and took great pleasure in showing livestock in county, state, and national livestock shows. He was also interested in tracing his German heritage and genealogy.

He is survived by his wife, Emily; four children and their spouses, Keven T. and Mary Neujahr of Gibbon, Quentin T. and Kathryn Neujahr of Parker, Colo., Jennifer Broersma Neujahr and Lennart Broersma of Aurora, Ill., and Nathan T. Neujahr of Liberty; eight grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Bernita Neujahr of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Warren Scheer and wife, Mary, of Arlington; sister-in-law, Virginia Larsen and her husband, Rhea, of Bennington; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Opal Schlechte, Mildred Niemann, and Janice Struebing; and a brother, Orville Neujahr.

Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, Wymore, is in charge of local arrangements.
