HELEN L. JIPP, 92

Services were Saturday, February 15 at the Congregational Church in Blair for Helen L. Jipp, 92, who died February 12, 1992, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair of a heart attack. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Helen L. Jipp was born May 29, 1899 to George and Catherine Beckman Rohwer in Fort Calhoun. She was the first child born in the new home built on the family farm just north of Fort Calhoun. A few feet away was the site of the early dugout and log cabin where her grandfather and grandmother lived in the early years after coming to Nebraska from Germany.

She attended school in Fort Calhoun. She later graduated from Central High School in Omaha.

She married Edwin T. Jipp, a childhood friend and classmate in 1925. They began their marriage at Dannebrog, Nebraska where Edwin, Jr. was born.

In 1927 they moved to Blair where they set up a dental practice. Jipp maintained his office in Blair for 40 years while she assisted him in many ways in his work. During that period their daughter Margaret was born in 1931.

Helen Jipp joined the Congregational Church of Blair in 1929 and was a member until her death. She was active in many of the different projects of the church and served as chairman for Rotary dinners from 1950 until about 1978. In 1986, she entered Crowell Memorial Home and lived there until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1967; and six brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Shirley Jipp of Blair and daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Edward Williams of Decatur, Illinois; five grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, Ellen, Paul and Martin; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Bridget, Derek, Natalie and Mary.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
