Verlyn H. Echternach, 77, of Humboldt, died March 27, 2005, at Colonial Acres Nursing Home. Funeral services were Saturday, April 9, at the Church of Christ in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Interment was at the Branson Cemetery in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Verlyn "Vern" Herbert Echternach was born March 4, 1938, in Albert Lee, Minn., to Herbert and Sadie (Jensen) Echternach. He attended school in Lakefield, Minn., before moving to Omaha, where he spent most of his youth. On Nov. 27, 1953, he was married to Kathryn Jane Schaefer in Omaha.

Mr. Echternach worked as a truck driver and a mechanic for more than 50 years. He lived in Missouri Valley most of his life befoe moving to Colonial Acres in Humboldt in 2003.

He is survived by his daughters, Judy Carol, Joyce LaVonn, Lynette Jane, and Terri Rae; son, Dennis; sister and brother-in-law, Vonnie and Leonard Nygaard of Rapid City, S.D.; brother, Lavoy Echternach of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces. nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, and a son, Alan.
