Faye Isabelle Kerstetter was born on Dec. 29, 1923, in Douglas County to Earnest and Emma (Stender) Kerstetter. She grew up in rural Washington County.

Her mother passed away when she was young and it became her job to help to raise her siblings.

She married Irvin Kay on Feb. 26, 1941, at the Elk City United Methodist Church. The couple raised their family in the Bennington area.

Mrs. Kay was a hard-working homemaker who raised her two boys and helped her husband. She was active in Extension Club, Eagles, Elk City United Methodist Church and later St. John’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her garden, canning, baking and cooking. Mr. and Mrs. Kay enjoyed dancing, travelling and visiting with the neighbors. Mrs. Kay was dedicated to her husband and the boys, making sure they received all the care they needed. She got great pleasure at Christmastime opening gifts.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Glenn and Denise of Fremont, and Merlin and Annette of Kennard; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Grace Kerstetter of Kennard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin; brothers, Stanley and Clyde; and three step-brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Elk City Cemetery.
