FLORENCE D. JOHNSEN, 87

Funeral services for Florence D. Johnsen, 87, of Bennington, were held Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, with the Rev. James Price officiating. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Omaha. Mrs. Johnsen died Aug. 10 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Florence Della (Buller) Johnsen was born May 5, 1915, at Honey Creek, Iowa, to Arthur and Katie (Petersen) Buller. She grew up in Omaha, where she attended Springville grade school and graduated from Benson High School in 1933. As a young girl, she enjoyed music and spent many hours helping her father with their truck garden.

On May 11, 1938, she married Raymond Johnsen at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Omaha. The couple had two children, and the family lived in the Benson area before moving to a farm near Washington. They eventually moved to another farm before finally settling down in their current home near downtown Bennington.

Mrs. Johnsen was, first and foremost, a homemaker, but she also worked at Gordon Grocery, counting coupons. She also worked at the Shamrock Motel.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, and collecting cardinals. She loved to go to garage sales, travel on bus tours and go dancing at Peony Park with friends. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a caring and loving person who acquired the nickname, “Granny Goose.”

She is survived by her husband, Raymond; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sandy Johnsen of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Terry Loptin of Bennington; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford Buller of Texas; a sister-in-law, Gladys Matzen of Blair, and many other family and friends.

Reichmuth Funeral Home in Bennington was in charge of arrangements.
