ANONA JOHNSON

The funeral for Anona E. Johnson, 101, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

She died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

She was born May 13, 1904, in Nickerson to L. Maurice and Alice (Wilt) Wickersham. She married Howard C. Johnson on Sept. 2, 1925, in Tekamah. The couple lived in Fremont, where her husband operated Johnson Milling Co., then was a sales representative for a hybrid seed company, deputy marshal and constable for Dodge County, and later retiring in 1979 as Dodge County’s register of deeds. Her husband preceded her in death in May 1982.

She was a nearly 80-year member of Fremont’s First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, a member of Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star and a past noble grand of Rebekah Lodge 59. She had served the local hospital as a gray lady for six years.

Survivors include: a daughter, Marilyn (and husband Warren) Cade of Rockford, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Ann Johnson of Long Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert H. Johnson, a daughter, Virginia in August 2005, and Virginia’s husband, Charles Calandra in November 2005.

The Rev. Ronald Croom will officiate Friday’s service. Visitation will be from 1 – 9 p.m. today at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont and will continue one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church.
