Car Hits Truck, Two are Killed

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Eacker, well-known here, are victims

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Eacker of Schuyler, close friends of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Hunt, jr., of Blair and well-known to many other members of the younger set in Blair, were killed late Tuesday evening near Schuyler when their car crashed into the rear end of a truck. Mrs. Eacker died instantly, and her husband succumbed three hours later in a hospital. Their 2-year-old son, sleeping in the back seat of the auto, escaped death, but suffered bruises and possible internal injuries.

Mr. Eacker and Mr. Hunt were formerly schoomates at Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri, and the two couples were warm friends. When Mr. and Mrs. Hunt were married in August, 1933, the Schuyler couple acted as witnesses.

Both of the victims were prominent in Schuyler. Mr. Eacker's father operates the Eacker Motor company there, and Mrs. Eacker's father is Jerry Jones, county commissioner of Colfax county.

Note: Sept. 20, 1934 was a Thursday, so they died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1934
