Elizabeth P. Gage, 96

Elizabeth Pearl Gage, 96, of Milford died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Integrated Health Services Nursing Home in Milford.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 9, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in Milford. The Rev. Dr. Keith Johnson officiated. Interment was at Lyons City Cemetery.

Elizabeth P. Gage was born August 4, 1903, on a farm near Herman to Thomas and Sophia(Mencke)Mathiesen, the oldest of seven children. As a young girl, she attended a country school near Bancroft through the eighth grade.

On September 28, 1927, she married Peter Z.Gage in Pender. They had five children. They lived on a farm near Lyons and in 1940, they moved near Underwood, Iowa. Elizabeth moved to Milford in 1982 where she entered the nursing home in 1983.

She was a member of the Mount Hope Methodist Church in McClelland, Iowa, and enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. Everyone enjoyed her baking, as she baked bread every day.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Peter Jr. and Corrine Gage, Omaha; Roy and Eleanor Gage, Ralston; Stanley and Joan Gage of Fort Calhoun; a daughter and son-in-law, Edna “Sue” and Marvin Frey of Milford, daughter-in-law, Connie Gage, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Edna Diddock, Eugene, Ore., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Z. Gage in 1983; a son, John Gage, granddaughter, Gina Christine Gage, three brothers, Walter, Clarence and Tommy Mathiesen, and two sisters, Hannah Wooten and Ardeline Gorrell.

Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Milford was in charge of arrangements.
