ELIZABETH A. “FIZZ” JOHNSON, 69

Elizabeth A. “Fizz” Johnson, 69, of Tekamah, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, with the Rev. Steven P. Eggum officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur.

Visitation began Monday, but will also be held at the funeral home, one hour prior to services.

Elizabeth Ann “Fizz” Johnson was born Aug. 6, 1933, in Omaha. She was adopted at a young age by Berl and Helen (Stephens) Gammel.

She spent her childhood on a farm in the Silver Creek Township, northwest of Tekamah. She graduated from Tekamah High School in 1951. After graduation, she attended Wayne State College, where she met Paul W. Johnson, Jr.

On June 6, 1954, the couple was married at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah.

Mrs. Johnson taught at several schools including the Herman Elementary School. She attended Metro Community College in Omaha, where she obtained her LPN license. She worked for many years at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, and for several area nursing homes.

She loved to play bingo and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Jr., of Tekamah; son and daughter-in-law, Paul III and Vicki Johnson, also of Tekamah; two grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Phyllis Gammel of Murdock; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah is in charge of arrangements.
