A private Graveside cremation committal service was held for Alice Wilson Gammel of Oakland, Nebraska, on June 17, 1988.

Alice passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 1988, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, after a lengthy battle with Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE). Her body was cremated in accordance with her wishes.

Alice was born on April 21, 1923, at Tekamah, Nebraska, to Earl and Fay (Latta) J. Wilson. She attended District No. 16 Rural School and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1940.

She was married to Keith J. Gammel from November of 1940 to 1959, during which she and Keith farmed and traveled during Keith’s years in the Armed Forces from 1943 to 1945.

Alice worked in the Burt County Clerk’s office in the Burt County Court House for five years from 1960-1965. From 1965 until 1981 she lived and worked in Arkansas and Texas, having been a Secretary for the U.S. Department of Labor in Dallas, Texas. In 1982 ill health forced her to leave her position with the Department of Labor and Alice moved to Oakland, Nebraska, where she resided until the time of her death.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Tekamah, a member of the Presbyterian Church Evening Circle, the Herman Echo Club, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Gold Star Sister) and American legion Auxiliary, and a member of both the Dallas F.B.A. and the Department of Labor Secretaries.

Survivors include one daughter, Celia Ann Gammel from the state of Washington (temporarily residing at Alice’s home in Oakland, Nebraska) and one sister, Helen (Mrs. Paul Jr.) Gammel of Tekamah. Alice loved her nieces and nephews dearly and their families and babies were a constant joy to her. They include Dian Gammel Johnson of Craig, Jean Gammel Dougherty of LeSeur, Minnesota, Thomas C. Gammel of Tekamah, George Wilson, Jr. of Hopeville, Iowa, and Jim and Bob Wilson, both of California.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas D. Wilson and George C. Wilson.

A memorial service honoring Alice Wilson Gammel for her friends and relatives will be held at 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 1988, at the Herman Legion Hall. The family will receive friends at the Legion Hall prior to the memorial service beginning at 7:00 P.M.
