Crystal Eggleston, 86

Washington County native Crystal Eggleston, 86, died June 24, 2003, in Lincoln, Calif. Her remains were cremated and at her request, no services were held.

Crystal Eggleston was born May 5, 1917, in Admah, now known as Herman to Edgar and Irene (Jacobsen) Clausen. She was born at the farm home of her grandparents, Christian and Maren Clausen, who were early immigrants from Sjaelland, Denmark.

She married Steve Eggleston of North Bend. The couple had four daughters. Her husband died in 1966.

After moving to Napa, Calif., Mrs. Eggleston worked for the state while going to school for her nursing degree. She later became a director.

Mrs. Eggleston later sold her home in Middletown, Calif. and moved in with her duaghter, Dolores Nemes, and son-in-law. They later moved to Lincoln, Calif., whee Mrs. Eggleston's son-in-law died.

Mrs. Eggleston loved to travel. Some thought she was born with a set of wheels. She loved to tell stories of her travels, many of which included travel in Nebraska. She helped and cared for many, volunteering many hours and was always willing to help.

Working with Joan Allgor, the family and church historian, Mrs. Eggleston placed the history of her parents, grandparents (Clausen and Jacobsen), and great-grandparents (Haines) in the Washington County History published in 1980.

She is survived by one daughter, Dolores Nemes of Lincoln, Calif., her sister, Leona Clausen of Corning, Calif., 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and LeRoy, and a sister, Marion Strong.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's charity of choice.
