V.O. IRELAND DIED SUDDENLY EARLY SUNDAY

DEATH CAME ON FIFTY-THIRD WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Void O. Ireland, 75, well known Blair man, died suddenly at his home early Sunday morning, November 18th. Mr. Ireland was the victim of a heart attack.

He had been in good health and stayed up late Saturday evening to watch a favorite television program. He was stricken shortly after midnight and died before aid could be summoned.

Void Ireland was born March 15, 1881, at Leon, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.M. Ireland who were loved and are remembered by many Blairites.

The family moved to Nebraska many years ago and engaged in farming.

He was married to Francis Maude Hulbert at Blair, November 18, 1903, and his death came on the couple’s fifty-third wedding anniversary. For a number of years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Ireland farmed in the vicinity west of Herman and east of Tekamah but later moved to Blair where he became engaged in highway work. He had worked for the county and state highway departments nearly thirty years and was cited some years ago by the State Highway Department for twenty-five years of service. Mr. Ireland was retired at the time of his death.

It was during his years of highway service that he became known to most folks of the Blair vicinity. He was known for his ready smile and never-failing wave and for this, all who traveled the routes where he worked, came to know him. He made many friends.

He is survived by his wife, and two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Beatrice) Nielsen and Mrs. Clifford (Nona) Halbert. There are three grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Fred Huff of Louisville and a brother Clifford of Omaha also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Father (unreadable) conducting the services. Burial was directed at the Blair Cemetery by the Bendorf Funeral Home.

Brother lodge members of Washington Lodge No. 21, A.F.&A.M. conducted services at the grave.

Pallbearers were Fred Dixon of Arlington; Curtis Dixon of Ft. Calhoun; Gilford Garner, John Barry, Harold Hibbs and Weston Long, all of Blair.
