Lawrence Gaskill, 78, died Oct. 23, 2004, at his home in Schuyler.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. Interment will be in the Schuyler Cemetery with military honors provided by McLeod Post No. 47 of the American Legion and Hespen-Mitchell Post No. 4836 of the VFW.

Lawrence Gaskill was born April 23, 1926, at St. Charles, S. D., to Archie Dean and Orpha (Hollen) Gaskill.

He attended Linwood and Hastings schools, and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1944. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard the USS Cushing, of the Pacific’s 3rd Fleet.

On May 31, 1947, he married LaVaine Jedlicka at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha.

Mr. Gaskill was a commercial printer and artist. He worked for Omaha Print for 15 years before retiring in 1988. He moved to Schuyler in 1997.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, LaVaine; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Geri Gaskill of Blair; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Laree and Tom Fetters of Omaha, and Teresa Marshall of Boulder, Colo.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Lupita Gaskill of Schuyler, Alton Gaskill of Moses Lake, Wash., and John and Marcia Gaskill of Alton, Ill.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Archie Dean Jr., and a sister, Marjorie.
