Former Fort Calhoun resident Margaret Maurice (Stewart) Adams, 80, of York, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005 at York.

Funeral Services were Monday, Oct. 31, at the Metz Mortuary chapel in York, followed by graveside services at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Margaret Maurice Stewart was born July 6, 1925 in Benton, Ark., to George L. and Bertha (Fleming) Stewart.

Besides being a superb wife and mother, she was an accomplished stenographer, office manager and accountant. Her early career was associated with civil construction projects in Texas and Arkansas and later with the federal government in Arkansas and Nebraska. She was 57 years of age when she earned her associate degree in accounting with honors from Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.

Being a gifted seamstress, she enjoyed retirement most when she could be inside doing her quilting or spend time outside tending to her flowers.

Maurice, along with her husband, retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of Omaha in January 1992. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Blair.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald J. Adams; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael S. and Paula Berry of Edgemont, Ark., Ronald J. Jr. and Ruth L. Adams of York; six grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Lucile Garrett of Benton, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Irvin L. Stewart.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the donor's choice or the Alzheimer's Association.

Adams of York; sons and spouses, Michael S. and Paula Berry of Edgemont, Arkansas, Ronald J. Jr. and Ruth L. Adams of York; grandchildren, Renee (Berry) Smith and Adam Berry, AR, Timothy, Davide, Alexander and Janelle Adams, all of York; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Nicole Smith. Also surviving is a very close sister-in-law, Lucile Garret of Benton, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held, Monday, 10/31/05 at 10:00 am at Metz Mortuary Chapel, York, followed by Graveside Services at Fort Calhoun Cemetery, Fort Calhoun, NE at 2:30 pm. Honorary casket bearers are Tom Anderson, Jeff Bowser, Robert Fitzgerald, Bob Slechta, Tom Gitter and Gary Nelson. Visitation 2-9 pm on Sunday with family greeting relatives and friends from 6-8 pm.
